Pleomorphic Adenoma of Ectopic Salivary Gland Tissue in the Upper Neck

چکیده
Pleomorphic adenoma also known as “mixed tumor” is the most common neoplasm in major salivary glands. It is a benign tumor arises from the parotid gland in 84% of cases and represents 45% of parotid gland tumors [1]. Only 6.5% are found in the minor salivary glands [2]. Salivary gland tumors occurring in ectopic sites are rare and poorly understood; sometime we can find heterotopic tissue arising from an aberrant salivary gland in external auditory canal, nasal cavity, tongue, tonsils and neck [3]. The presence of pleomorphic adenoma in the upper neck, along the anterior border of the sternocleidomastoid muscle is extremely rare. Only five cases of ectopic mixed salivary gland tumors in the upper neck in adult patients have been reported [47]. This article describes another case of pleomorphic adenoma occurring in the upper neck followed by a literature review in order to identify the major characteristics and differential diagnosis of such a rare disease.

Synchronous Parotid and Homolateral Submandibular Gland Pleomorphic Adenoma
Introduction: Pleomorphic adenomas are benign neoplasms of salivary glands. The simultaneous homolateral occurrence of these tumors in salivary glands is exceedingly rare. Case Report: An adult female presenting to our OPD with the swelling of right-sided preauricular and submandibular regions was diagnosed with the pleomorphic adenoma based on fine needle aspiration c...

A case of pleomorphic adenoma originating from ectopic salivary gland tissue (ESGT) of the upper neck is reported. A 34-year-old male patient was referred to our Department for a painless swelling in the right submandibular region. Preoperative evaluation (clinical examination, fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) and imaging studies) was performed and the finding was that of pleomorphic aden...

Introduction: The presence of salivary heterotopic tissue is uncommon and even more rarely neoplasms arise from aberrant salivary gland tissue. The finding of a benign mixed tumour (pleomorphic adenoma) in heterotopic salivary tissue along the anterior border of the sternocleidomastoid muscle, in the upper neck, is extremely rare. Case Report: We present the fourth case in adults patientsof ect...
متن کاملUpper Lip Pleomorphic Adenoma: Comparison of Reported Cases between 1990 and 2012
Introduction: Pleomorphic adenoma of the upper lip is a rare entity and its diagnosis requires a high index of suspicion. The aim of this study was to review the reported cases of pleomorphic adenoma (PA) of the upper lip. Methods: This study was performed on the basis of the clinical features of 10 well-documented reported cases of the upper lip pleomorphic adenomas from 1990 to 2012 which hav...
متن کاملMalignant Pleomorphic Adenoma (Malignant Mixed Tumor) of the Minor Salivary Glands
Salivary gland tumors accounts for less than 1% of all tumors. Minor salivary gland tumors (MSGTs) are uncommon and make up about 10% of all salivary gland neoplasms. The clinical and histopathological distribution of these tumors vary geographically. A case of a 38 yr old man with a minor salivary gland mass at chin region isreported here. The tumor invaded into the anterior ...
